Loft, if translated from English, can be understood as “attic”. On American soil, the loft is called the upper floor, any industrial room.
In Europe, similarly to the United States, loft includes only non -working industrial buildings, such as factories, warehouses and other rooms. Typically, such objects are remade for offices, all kinds of residential complexes and so on. In other words, loft in these cases are not attic.
Loft apartment is apartments occupying a significant space that are located in former industrial buildings. In the interior of such apartments, metal structures, brick walls and so on are fully preserved. Actually, the loft is typical, mainly in America.
Prerequisites for the emergence of such a non -standard phenomenon as loft, there were several types. At the very beginning, all industrial facilities were built in the city as townhouses in order to save on the acquisition of very expensive land plots. Years have passed, the city has grown very much, and as a result, such enterprises and plants began to be in the very center of the city, and the land plots went up several hundred times.
In addition, in the twenties in the United States there was a great depression, due to which a large number of factories and factories turned into bankrupt and completely ruined. The premises that were completely unnecessary, and located in the most prestigious areas of the city, did not remain empty for a long time.
In those days, the tenants of loft, for the most part, were representatives of the elite. Architects and musicians, wealthy artists, famous poets and writers, filmmakers and playwrights lived here.
Over time, other residents of the city were able to appreciate all the originality and attractiveness of such housing. Businessmen, lawyers, bankers and brokers settled here. They felt a special chic and loft style.
